me--I am a belly dancer and a raver...and I teach a dance class for beginner bellydancers that focuses on dance for prayer and pagan ritual. I plan on learning to hula hoop soon, and I'm starting to learn to bellydance with a cane and sword.

Re: What are your talents?
Tue, February 22, 2005 - 3:54 PMnamaste,
i'm not a raver per se, more of a goth chick who (being pagan), naturally likes to dance... i dance with a Tribal troupe by the name of Daughters of Sophia (www.tribaldancearts.com)... my specialty is the sword (a falling-apart antique indian talwar), which i can not only balance on my head, shoulders and chest, but can spin/turn with, do floor work with(inclideing spinning over on the floor), and throw and spin (almost like color guard people or a baton) while danceing... (i've been danceing like this for about 2 years... and have fallen in love with the style... )
we will be preforming at the national women's day event held by manchester library march 12th... also, our troupe leader gives lessons for both beginner and advanced dancers, from her home/studio in brick, new jersey... this is not caberet style though, but a blend of middle eastern, baltic, indian and african dance (like gypsie caravan or fat chance belly dance... but i think we're much better!).... i'd like to start teaching a sword class... but need to find out how to begin doing so, and if anyone would be interested... thanx very much! merry part! and hope to hear some feedback!

Re: What are your talents?
Tue, February 22, 2005 - 8:56 PMI'm in Pittsburgh, but if I were closer to you, I would undoubtedly attend your classes--especially the sword class. I am just now getting into trying to teach myself to sword dance. A friend just gave me her old sword to practice with, so I'm pretty pumped about that. I can't wait to sword dance! I'm going to get into cane dancing, too.
Wow, I like the sound of all the stuff you do! Wish I lived closer!

Re: What are your talents?
Mon, June 5, 2006 - 11:19 PMHi!
I am a contact juggler (for 6 years) and bellydancer (I'd say somewhere in between beginner and intermediate been doing it for 3 years) and am working on combining them. There are some natural movements in both CJing and Bellydancing that go SOO well.
I also really like techno music-drum & bass and trance are my favorite. Right now I'm working on learning poi and staff, so I can spin them with fire. My cabaret group (tribes.tribe.net/infinitecarnavalallure) just put together a video with fire fingers so we can (hopefully) get performance discounts this year at Burning Man.
Right now I really want to focus on sending a message with my performance--not just entertaining. I want to tell people to expand their minds and resist war and violence. Spread Gandhian philosophy and that we can evolve our conciousness--its easy, really!! So I'm brainstorming ways to do that through dance. Anyone have ideas? Are there anymore Contact Jugglers who bellydance on this tribe?
Peace!

I'm so excited to hear that you combine contact juggling with bellydance!
Someone I know is teaching himself to contact juggle, and as I watch him practice I always think
"I really should learn with him and mix it with bellydance", but I've been too discouraged by thinking I wouldn't be good at contact juggling. I guess I should quit being a wimp and try it, hehe.
I'd LOOOOOVE to see you do that!
You should post videos online of yourself doing that! Do you have a website and plan to do so?
My good friend is teaching herself to do some really awesome popping and locking moves mixed with bellydance, it's sweeeeeet.
I can't wait to learn all this fun stuff!
I'm so impressed that you contact juggle with bellydance!!!!!!!!
