What are some crazy things you've seen at raves...let me re-phrase that: What are some crazy gadgets, performers, etc. you've seen at raves?

My answer: I went to a rave that had a Moonwalk in it, one of those blow-up tents that you (take your shoes off and) jump around in, like they have at carnivals for kids! It was nuts! It was so much fun! Then when it was time for them to deflate it, myself and some other "kids" couldn't make ourselves get out, and it deflated on us as we danced. The mean bouncer guy yelled "All of you kids get out of there!", to which I responded "I'm not a kid, I'm a bunny!". (I had big fluffy pony tail holders, bunny-like in my hair). Yeah, it deflated on me as a danced my bunny tail around and then couldn't get out.

I think it would rock to take old mattresses that are about to go in the garbage to a rave. Then we can all take turns jumping/dancing on the bed (shoes off, kids!) and throw them away when the rave is over--give those beds a proper good-bye. I thought of this because it would be better for your knees than jumping on a hard floor, and because it would just be so much fun!

A friend just told me he keeps winning Limbo contests, and I thought he meant at a rave!--so another idea there...limbo sticks.

The moonwalk thing made me think of a ball pit like at chuck e cheese...that would be great. A ball pit at a rave.

Opel productions of San Francisco has often had bellydancing at our parties including:

Rachel Brice and the Indigo - For Infuse in May 2003 and our New Years Party 2004
Jill Parker and Ultra Gypsy- like 3 or 4 times
Olu for Love Parade SF after party with Spundae
    Zaheea www.zaheea.com
    Kristina Canizares for Opel's Sensulle

there is a lot going on here!

Rachel Brice was our midnight ceremony once and it was amazing!

I wish that Get Freaky and other parties in SF would have more bellydancing, I have been advocating that for a long time- but its hard to get people to invite us..

at burning man there are zillions of dancers, used to be unique, exotic, but I think its crossed over a lot and now its like common

if you don't know, Lorin/Bassnectar, he is the best for dancing to break beats, www.bassnectar.net

having bellydancing at a party is really cool, people love performance art, its a nice break between djs especially in a chill space and it isn't something you see all the time.

i like this tribe :-) see all the pics I was saying at www.mvgals.net/gallery/opel mostly see Gina's pics

I love what you have going on with Opel and would love to get involved!

Are you currently accepting demo CD's?

I am a DJ playing eastern beats and a tribal style bellydancer and put a lot into my costuming when I play. I would Loooove to come to SF to experience the kind of scene that you are creating and get more ideas on how to create it here in the NW.

thanks for doing what you do!

Davis did a 12 foot tall pirate that shot fireballs out his sleves from a flame thower on his back, at the marionettes that got away until they revolted and put his out with fire extingushers

Dr. megavolt shot lightningbolts out of his tits to light flaming swords on fire

Roo spins fire unside down 30 feet in the air while playing drums

Karis hulahoops 30 feet off the ground

Brady explodes different colored fireballs out of his mouth

I knew a promoter who threw events at his family farm. The organizers stole an old toppled over metal silo and a bunch of other farm stuff that I wouldn't know a thing about being a city girl and they welded and built them into a space shuttle and landing pod. The space shuttle had plexiglass windows and insulation and deck tables in it so the DJs could spin from inside. It probably wasn't the craziest thing I ever saw but it sticks in my mind as the most inventive decoration, hardest to put together thing I ever saw.

Oh and the best location ever was a rave I ended up leaving early. It was in the badlands in south dakota. I went up with 2 DJs and 2 VJs in tiny little honda civics crammed with lots of deer and we got horribly lost, hit a deer on the way much to my absolute trauma and ended up at the rave which was located down 6 miles of dusty bumpy track which we barely made it down. Once we got there though it was beautiful. The badlands are so surreal and this was in a flat spot surrounded by the intensely strange structures and it was filled with screens from various VJs and tents with glowing colors and one windy creek.
Only problem was that the porta-potty person had refused to deliver down the 6 miles of track and there was no place for women to go pee except crouched behind random cars. The place we were supposed to stay wasn't there so we had to borrow a tent and one member of our crew had to sleep in the car. The next day there was no shade and one of the 2 DJs got heat stroke, and the promoter skipped. .. so we headed back home before it was over.

I just remembered something fun...It's not a big creative thing that happened or anything, but was a random and very good find!:
About 6 years ago, I went to Puerto Rico for 3 weeks...My friend and I were walking around in old San Juan and we suddenly heard electronic music coming from somewhere. We kept walking and found a DJ randomly set up, playing outside in Puerto Rico! It was so awesome! It wasn't a party or anything, just this DJ set up outside playing music! It was such an awesome moment.

I'm really enjoying reading everyone's stories about awesome party stuff they've seen.

I have bellydanced at raves in Pittsburgh over the years, one time behind a visuals screen, looking like I was swirling the colors together with the shadow of my movement.
